- Orthopaedic surgery continues to progress research and development of minimally invasive surgical techniques to reduce soft tissue morbidity and enhance healing outcomes for patients. The purpose of the study is to evaluate a minimally-invasive approach to finger and thumb joint fusion surgery. The intent is to demonstrate the feasibility of these mini-invasive techniques in hand surgery, reporting complications and primary outcomes, with a view to continuing to modernise surgical options for patients. There is a lack of literature reporting minimally invasive surgical approaches to finger and thumb joint fusion, thus this study adds valuable insights into the technique and may provide a basis for future comparison to other techniques for finger and thumb joint fusion to establish a gold standard approach.
